Do not try to catch a dropped gun
Police said a man’s gun fell out of it’s holster and fired one shot inside a Wal-Mart store off NW U.S. 90 in Lake City Friday morning.
But this is odd:
The Lake City Police Department said LJ Johnson had the concealed firearm. They said the gun and it’s holster landed on the floor. The firearm then discharged through the holster and into an unknown location.
Was it in the holster or not?

Contradicting information within a single report and incorrect usage of “it’s” twice.
Journalism. Just awesome.

What kind of holster was it? Uncle Mike is a terrorist that is enabling criminals.

How did that happen? Most holsters are just flaps closed along an edge. Not sure how you could depress a trigger with flaps.
Seems like some kind of defect in the gun. Hair trigger? hobby gunsmith?

@ Paul B:
Could also have been an older firearm like my Ruger P series. If the decocker isn’t on safe and there is a round in the chamber it could fire if it fell and landed on the hammer. Unlikely, but possible.

Unpossible!
Walmart is very unfriendly to carry (at least in my neck of the woods). If so, how did that gun get in there? Did their magical “no-gun” barrier forget to be reactivated after their last sporting goods shipment?

Could have fallen out of it’s holster.
The holster could have had an exposed trigger cut (like lots of old holsters have.)
Dunno. Strange the whole holster fell out. What kind of belt attachment could it have had.
Could this be a pocket holster and the gun fell out of the holster?

No make or model mentioned. It’s really impossible to have an intelligent conversation based on the junk reporting that the media does. Michael Crichton was right, the media really are “institutionally incompetent”.

a) There is not enough information in the story to draw any meaningful conclusions about what really happened.
but…
b)
This makes me suspicious that there’s more to this story than “it just fell out.” Unless there’s some serious hostility towards gun owners in that department, you don’t usually have to post a $2,000 bond for something like this unless you have a prior record.
