ATF, Raging Judge and Ranch Hand

No determination actually made:

Taurus President and CEO Bob Morrison invited officials from the ATF’s Technology Branch to discuss some of the firm’s new product introductions. “I asked them to come and give some advice,” Morrison said. By all accounts the meeting was cordial, professional, and not a “raid” or “gotcha” as erroneously reported elsewhere. No determination on the gun’s status was made at the show. Remember, to even be in the United States at all, the prototype had to be cleared by BATFE for importation. On the 28-gauge Raging Judge revolver, Taurus sought BATFE’s advice on some modifications to the gun and is the process of implementing the results of those suggestions. This is a very common practice; gun manufacturers and importers regularly work with BATFE as the firearm industry’s regulatory agency.

“the .45 Colt/.410-bore lever-action Ranch Hand with the rifled barrel is good to go for importation”

This has nothing to do with this post. I think you should check out this thread on AR15.com. Help get the word out.

Damn, I’m on a restricted internet connection and i can’t get to arfcom. Just do a search for

“ARF Firemission, Hughes Amendment Video found. Write your senators, spread the video”

Given the extreme popularity of the Judge, even among Democrat Gubernatorial Candidates, it might be a wise move for Taurus to use this in an anti-NFA Campaign.

“See this kickass 28ga pistol? You know you want one! Well, you can’t have it because the ATF said it’s too dangerous. Call your Congressman!”

  4. Bill Says:

The ATF is impossible. So far as multiple projectiles for a cartridge are concerned, longer is more lethal for a longer range.

Shotgun shell pistols can be lethal only at short ranges. Stand 100 yards downrange from a .410 Judge with shot and get hit in the body and you’ll get stung, but not much else. Getting hit with a Colt .45 at that range will generally be fatal.

There is no reason that a 28 gauge should NOT be allowed if a .410 is.

BUT…its the ATF and their existence at all makes no sense.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
