From SWAT Magazine. I’m interested in the patrol rifle optic. EOTech’s are great at everything except battery life.

Don’t forget about battery housing/circuit life, too!

The more I’ve talked to people who’ve put serious miles on EOTechs, the less hip I am with them, although the latest ones with lateral batteries correct one of the more noticeable shortcomings…

Really? My EOTech 517 has the same batteries in it that came with the unit two years ago. And, I shoot regularly. Interesting…..

1,000 hours with Lithium batteries is an issue?
I’ve used most of the “combat” sights… give me an EOTECH.
with auto shut off, so the batteries don’t drain while not using, it’s a great sight..
I guess is all preference… (I’ve seen pics of EoTech’s on top of M2 (Ma deuce) machine guns… Must be pretty rugged.

M4finny,
If it had been an Aimpoint, you could have left it on that whole time. 😉
I’ve seen a couple go tango uniform from the batteries shifting fore and aft under recoil, which problem is eliminated in the newer ones.

Trijicon Reflex for me (tho I have and like an Eotech 512, too) – no batteries at all, works day or night just fine.

John,
Some earlier EOTECHs eat batteries. Actually, “eat batteries” doesn’t really describe the phenomenon; it’s worse than that. I have one of those earlier sights.
L3 fixed that problem in later models.
