Reading the articles, I’m cornfused as to what Capt Springer is trying to do.
The hardware available to direct artillery fires is so advanced these days (and I got out of arty in ’99) that using a smartphone is a couple of steps backwards.
Add to that (at least in the Marine Corps), FDC personel in an arty battery are trained to help an untrained observer to get rounds on target.
