Reporting problem

Mayors Against Guns says the NICS background check system is underfunded. That’s not really true. The issue with the system is certain things are not reported, like mental health records or the Army not letting NICS know the Tucson shooter was rejected for marijuana use.

Violence Policy Center v. Reality

Reality is winning. One wonders if they’re delusional or lying. Probably both.

Speaking of ‘your gun sucks’

1911 v. the world.

A litany

Whenever I make fun of or link to something that says “your particular choice in gun may suck” everyone gets all butthurt. I get hatemail. And all of that. There is no perfect gun. If there was, we’d all have one and never buy another. Other than a back up perfect gun. But, like unicorns and Obama fiscal policy, it doesn’t exist. I carry a Glock. It’s trigger sucks, factory sights are cheap, and it has the ergonomics of a baseball bat. But I have a good reason to carry it. It works. Goes bang every time. And it’s easy to conceal.

I poke fun at 1911 reliability or say that the Taurus Judge is as useless as tits on a boar. But if that’s your thing, go for it. It’s all preference and what feels good to you.

Why are you listening to some guy on the internet anyway?

Glock Solidarity Match

Via email, from reader Chris:

All,

While preparing for the upcoming IDPA match I have decided to make this a Glock Solidarity match. If you own a Glock, please use it to shoot this week’s match.

Let me preface my explanation with the following: I am in no way affiliated with, or compensated by, the Glock Corporation. The following comments are mine alone and are not endorsed by the International Defensive Pistol Association, Bulls Eye Marksman Range, or the National Rifle Association.

Here is “the why”.

The incredibly sad and tragic shooting of 19 innocent people inTucson, AZ, including a Congresswoman and a federal judge, deserves a moment of prayer for all of the families impacted. As the details emerged over the course of this past week, it became apparent that this shooing was the act of a lone psychotic. It also became quite clear that the tool used was going to be demonized, yet again.

As I watched the media during the past week begin their pro forma attack on the Second Amendment, Glock, and by association gun owners, I became outraged at the sheer mendacity of the media and the anti-2A groups at the description of a Glock 9mm being an “assault weapon” or a “weapon of mass destruction”. It was at this point that I thought that we, as law abiding shooters and IDPA competitors, do not have to sit idly by and be maligned. It may only be symbolic, but my idea is simply this; let us stand in solidarity with the company that makes a fine product, supports competitive shooting, and strongly supports the shooting community in general. Glock has the same amount of culpability in Saturday’s shooting as Boeing did in the September 11, 2001, attacks on New York City and the Pentagon. Just as Ford, Chevy, and Dodge don’t entice someone to drink and drive, neither did Glock put their product in the shooter’s hands, whisper instructions in his ear, and point him toward his victims. It is simply outrageous to say that Glock, or anyone else, is responsible for this shooting.

Unlike individuals and groups that are opposed to the safe, responsible, and constitutional use of firearms, I am not trying to capitalize on the death and mayhem created by the shooter. I am not dipping my pen in the blood of the victims in order to “grandstand” or garner attention (I’m looking at you mainstream media, Congressman Peter King, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, and Brady Campaign!). Since much of the commentary regarding this event has been ignorant at best, and malicious at worst, I made a personal decision that at the next match I would shoot my Glock 19, if only as a symbol of my willingness to stand by a company that has been unrelenting in their support of my hobby. I hope that you will join me in this effort.

I fully understand and accept that this email and show of support for Glock may be viewed as inappropriate and incendiary; I can only say that this is not my intention. I alone have decided to ask my fellow IDPA shooters to participate in this call to action. I alone will suffer any criticism for these comments.

No matter how horrid this episode of violence has been, the opponents of God-given, individual liberties are holding nothing back in their attempts to reignite their gun control agenda, and I will not be cowered into submission. I resent and reject the premise that by responsibly exercising my rights I have abetted the acts of a deranged murderer.

If you have read this far into my “declaration”, I thank you for your patience, and hopefully, an open mind. I look forward to seeing everyone at this week’s match!

Sincerely,
Chris Wardell

Quote of the day

Heh:

You got it completely backwards. We should pass a law making it illegal for govenment officials from coming within 1000 feet of our guns.

Heh.

Not prevented = illegal

Via Kevin, Jared Loughner did not obtain his gun legally. He committed a felony to get it. When the press says he bought his gun legally, they mean that he was not prevented from buying one.

Uzi Shooting Update

The police chief who held the machine gun shoot in MA where the 8 year-old boy shot and killed himself has been found not guilty of involuntary manslaughter and three counts of furnishing machine guns to minors.

We need a federal law banning red g-strings

From Dave Foulk on facebook, comes this:

Law enforcement officials said Friday they have multiple photos of Jared L. Loughner posing with a Glock 9mm pistol next to his naked buttocks and dressed in a bright red g-string.

Ok, then.

Even more ALL GLOCK ALL THE TIME

The NYT poops its pants over the Glock.

Also: Law-enforcement agencies, including the NYPD, should boycott gun manufacturers who produce high-capacity magazines like the one used to shoot Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others, a top city official said yesterday.

Meanwhile, SI gives you the skinny on the Glock.

Gun Control: What we do instead of something

The proposed limits on regular capacity magazines are asinine for a few reasons. You’d have to presume people will not reload, which is done pretty easily and quickly:

And under the presumption no one will ever reload, you’re also admitting that a body count of X+1 is fine and dandy.

Also, in the video, I like how they note they use a magazine designed to hold 8 rounds to simulate legislatively reduced magazine capacity.

Quote of the Day

PDB: Unsighted pistol fire is a vital lifesaving skill that may be used under limited circumstances, and is something that most shooters don’t practice enough. But it is not a solution for all problems, and is not a substitute for learning to shoot your pistol!

Dear Wookiee Suiters: Why can’t you people drive?

Couple weeks back, there was a Honda Element in the left hand lane, doing less than the speed limit beside another car. For miles. Had traffic on 129 backed up as far as I could see. And at the last minute, the driver needed to make a right hand turn. So, s/he did what these people usually do and cut three people off, creating a clusterfuck at the intersection. The vehicle was decked out in a few Libertarian bumper stickers. Of note was the sticker pimping the Blount County Libertarian Party.

This morning, same thing. Only it was a blue Chevy Aveo. All manner of LP stickers and Ron Paul swag. Holding up traffic on Alcoa Highway by staying in the left lane and going slow. Then realizing at the last minute s/he needed to get on I140 and cut people off to make the right turn.

Granted, my evidence is anecdotal and my sample size is small. But what the hell is wrong with you people? First, you can’t fucking drive. Next, it’s crappy marketing. You’re not going to get supporters if you drive like a moron. And libertarian minded folks like me are now annoyed by you.

A real Libertarian will get the hell out of the way.
