I’m not surprised. Considering that the US Tax Law and Code is (as of 2006) over 16,800 pages long, anyone who does claim to understand tax law has to be lying.
She just didn’t want to be charged with making a false statement to the police, that’s all.

Why should she be able to when the freaking Treasurer of the UNITED STATES doesn’t?

I have been a tax lawyer for several decades and I would like to see Congress repeal the exising Code and replace it with a VAT or a national sales tax.
I can find something else to do.
The Internal Revenue Code, and the abominable Regs which supposedly explain and expand on it, have almost made me blind.
