And that one that you’re thinking of that I forgot.

Dixie Dregs – Cruise Control.
Not metal, but hard driving southern fusion with major shredding from Steve Morse and the band.
February 18th, 2011 at 2:45 pm
Radar Love is the best driving song ever. I would add:
Iron Maiden — Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Iron Maiden — Powerslave
AC/DC — Highway to Hell
AC/DC — Ain’t No Fun Waiting Round to be a Millionaire
Judas Priest — Night Crawler
Judas Priest — Hell Bent for Leather
Manowar — Battle Hymn
Dope — Die MF Die

Oh, and:
Dio — Rainbow in the Dark

Kyuss – Green Machine

From Filmtrack.com:
Unlike other modern composers, Poledouris successfully took Milius’ suggestion of adapting the sounds of Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and the Gregorian chanting of “Dies Irae” and provided similar emotional constructs without allowing the score to sound like a cheap and unaccomplished imitation.

Rammstein: Moskau

Another vote for Radar Love.
February 18th, 2011 at 5:40 pm
Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen: Hot Rod Lincoln
February 18th, 2011 at 5:41 pm
Foggy Mountain Breakdown always makes me drive faster. Remember: it was used as the “Bonnie and Clyde” theme.
I’m laughing because “Radar Love” has been mentioned twice. Not the best music maybe, but certainly a song to speed by.
February 18th, 2011 at 5:56 pm
Metallica, “Blitzkrieg”
Iron Maiden, “The Duellists”
Queensryche, “Spreading the Disease”
Megadeth, “Holy Wars (The Punishment Due)”

In no particular order, here are the top 12 most played on my driving/coding list. I made sure not to repeat songs already listed above. As a note though Radar Love is a must for any driving list.
Sick Puppies – You’re Going Down

Three Days Grace – Break
Drowning Pool – Bodies
Hellyeah – Alcoholin Ass
Nonpoint – Bullet with a Name on it
Distrubed – Indestructible

Helmet – In The Meantime
Unsane – Alleged

February 18th, 2011 at 11:41 pm
For me when I want to drive fast it’s something by the following:
Lords of Acid
My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult
Beastie boys
White zombie
DJ Tiesto or damn near any house music (also good music to build race cars to)
Black Flag
The Henry Rollins Band
The Hitch
Queens of the Stone Age
Rage Against the Machine
System of a Down
Southern Culture on the Skids
Ted Nugent
ZZ Top
Morchiba
Garbage
DOA
early Metallica (I have fond memories of twisty roads at 1am in a heavily tweaked 72 BMW 2002)
and some more I know I forgot.
February 19th, 2011 at 1:33 am
Deep Purple, Highway Star
ZZ Top, Arrested for Driving While Blind
Rob Zombie, Dragula
Drive-By Truckers, Shut Up and Get on the Plane
February 19th, 2011 at 1:44 am
+1 on “Radar Love” and “Twilight Zone”.
Also: Metallica, “Ride the Lightning”,
and a non-metal oldie, Sniff n’ the Tears, “Driver’s Seat”.
February 19th, 2011 at 8:04 am
For some weird reason, Billie Holiday works well for me while flogging a bike through the curves.
Every time there’s a list like this, somebody will eventually mention Rush’s “Red Barchetta”. I like “Driven” much better; more metal, although it’s a stretch to call it a somg about driving. Their “Ghost Rider” is fitting.
February 19th, 2011 at 11:46 am
John Adams, “Short Ride in a Fast Machine.”

A little Bonneville streamliner music.

Since many of my driving favorites have already been mentioned, I’ll just add Pat Benatar’s “Shadows of the Night,” Motorhead’s “Ace of Spades” and “Eat the Rich,” and Heather Alexander’s “March of Cambreadth” to the list of individual songs.
And yes, “Twilight Zone” by Golden Earring rocks.
Also, I’m partial to Queensryche’s “Operation:mindcrime” CD – particularly “Revolution Calling,” “I Don’t Believe in Love” and “Eyes of a Stranger” – and Metallica’s double-CD set “S&M.” If the full-blown version of “Master of Puppets” on the latter, with orchestral backing, doesn’t get your blood pumping…then you’re dead.
February 19th, 2011 at 1:01 pm
If I’m going really fast: Ted Nugent, Turn It Up.
February 19th, 2011 at 4:23 pm
Molly Hatchet – Flirting with Disaster
February 19th, 2011 at 11:11 pm
One more vote for Radar Love (the long version vs. Top 10 45rpm one).
Most Meatloaf.
Popcorn by Hot Butter
Jig of Slurs medley by The Tannahill Weavers
The fast cuts from Riverdance.
For those long hauls after Midnight? Dark Side of the Moon. You really can’t listen to that album in daylight.
Warren Zevon’s A Quiet Normal Life. Songs 35 years old that sound as if they were written yesterday.
Any of Craig Chaquico albums.
February 19th, 2011 at 11:32 pm
This list is too long. Despite my desire for more Metallica, Disturbed, Slipknot, Shinedown, Staind, etc…
…this one is full of all sorts of win: Too Late to Apologize: A Declaration by TJ and the Revo
February 20th, 2011 at 3:01 pm
The Black Angels – Entrance Song
February 20th, 2011 at 8:18 pm
Comatus jogged my memory, since I haven’t played it in a while: Little Feat’s “Red Streamliner”. Yeah, it’s a train song, but it works fine behind the wheel.
February 20th, 2011 at 9:40 pm
Train Kept A Rollin / Aerosmith
February 20th, 2011 at 11:56 pm
Oh shucks, if we’re doing train songs (hey, a Bonneville streamliner is a Land Speed Record car, in case you’re ever out that way), then Pentangle’s aptly-names “Train Song” from “Basket of Light” will get you there ahead of schedule.
Then you’ll want a dose of Villa-Lobos’ “Little Train of the Caipira,” and we’re off to the races.
