I used to carry Cor-Bon DPX in my P3AT and Gold Dots in my Colt Gov’t Model 380, but I recently switched all that for HPR’s new .380. It’s a 100-grain pill, a TMJ TC, and has an advertised M/V of 1033 fps, giving a M/E of 237 #/ft. That’s VERY respectable for the .380, and may be the hottest round out there, if not in speed, at least in size of the bullet. I haven’t seen any other 100-grain offerings.

Here are some gel tests done with a P3AT and with denim covered gel:

I would take either Gold Dots or DPX and would seriously consider carrying Critical Defense during the winter months.

DPX in my P3AT, but I’m a DPX guy– it’s in my 1911, in my Glocks and SIGs, in my rifles… too bad they don’t make a shotgun load (just kidding).

If I had a .380, it’d be loaded with Gold Dot or DPX. I’d try DPX first, then if it didn’t feed or shoot properly, go to Gold Dot.
After that, maybe something with the Hornady XTP bullet.

100gr hardcast load that I carry. Closest thing I’ve seen to .38 special out of a pocket .380.
