Actually, they need a bill to FIRE about half of the Legislature. 100 reps for @ 900,000 people (2000 Census)? We don’t have that many in Ohio with 10 times the population! Think the Tea Party type’s out there need to get to work and do some pruning!
fortunately, our legislature here in MT is only allowed to meet 4 months every two years. Every once in awhile an out of work politician tries to have our legislature in session full-time, but nobody wants that.
“This bill puts law enforcement in a very grey area,” agreed Rep. Margaret MacDonald, D-Billings.
Really? I wonder what’s grey about keeping their oath to uphold the constitution. If that’s a grey area, someone needs to be investigated for conflict of interest, or fear of citizens’ rights, or something.
If cops don’t like the idea of doing their duty among an armed populace, and doing it with politness and respect, all they have to do is quit. I don’t believe it is our responsibility as citizens to make them feel better about the carreer they chose, by compromising our fundamental rights.
One could argue that the increasing number of people represented by one legislator has contributed to our current lack of effective representation. Back at the Founding, how many people were represented by one state assemblyman? One Congressman? Way, way fewer than is the average now.
Legislators actually knew a lot of their constituents back then. Now? None of my reps know me from Adam, and I’m in a county party committee.

IIRC, Montana carry permit is only needed in a few towns anyway.
