Travelers (non) Explains Gun (non) Policy:
Travelers declined to comment about the specific case mentioned in the blogs because the company keeps private its dealings with customers. The New York-based property-casualty insurer that employs thousands in Connecticut does insure guns from theft. But the company would not say if owning certain types of rifles and handguns is a risk that Travelers considers uninsurable.
“Every individual is evaluated on the particular risks,” said Travelers spokesman Matt Bordonaro.
In general, owning guns doesn’t prevent a person from buying homeowner’s insurance. Theft of rifles or pistols is covered by a homeowner’s policy.
“A standard homeowner’s policy typically covers theft of guns up to certain limits, and there are additional endorsements that can be added for collectors looking to insure pieces over a certain value,” said Bordonaro, The Travelers spokesman.
No reason mentioned why there were two instances of folks being dropped or refused. Not much of an explanation, if you ask me.
Consequence for carrying shotguns into libraries.
Update:
Dear folks coming here from this OpenCarry thread,
I cannot comment there, so I will here. Police your own. Carrying a shotgun into a library is not going to win hearts and minds. It’s going to turn people away. This bill is going to draw more attention to the incident that led this politician to propose the bill. And not your rights.
You have rights. We get that. But when you’re focusing on your right and acting like a jerk, people tend to focus on that whole being a jerk part. There are effective ways to to win hearts and minds with respect to OC. Flashing guns at librarians and toting a shotgun on your back are not some of those ways.
This is like the kiss-ins that gay groups used to have. I’m all for gay rights and support gay marriage. But I don’t think a bunch of gay dudes kissing at the mall is effective at converting people to their cause.
You guys suck at marketing. And that’s it.
Hugs and kisses,
SayUncle
P.S. Tell the guy carrying the shotgun around town to knock it off.
Update 2: Oh for fuck’s sake. One of these guys carried an AR-15 to a Ponderosa Steakhouse and was surprised to be asked to leave. Seriously, you’re not helping. Carry a handgun. Leave the rifles and shotties at home or in the car.
Glenn has been singing the praises of the Roku Box. I’ve had one for about a year now. I love it. If you have Netflix streaming, you can stream instantly right to your TV any movie Netflix offers. It’s easy to use, our four year old does it all the time. One thing you realize with limitless access is how many Scooby Doo episodes and movies there are. Seems like thousands, honestly. I don’t know that we’ve watched the same one twice.
A few cons:
The remote is cheap. And I can’t program my other remotes to operate the Roku.
Not the most reliable. I have to reboot it on occasion, which consists of me unplugging it for a few seconds and plugging it back in.
Occasionally, it loses my network settings. Easily fixed, but a pain. Just run the set up again.
Some times, lag depending on internet connectivity. Not an issue with the Roku, but still annoying.
Overall, it’s worth it and I enjoy it immensely.
Because, while cities may not be able to ban guns, they can keep you from lawfully selling them there.
Sebastian on the Ung trial. He notes it’s pretty much a law-abiding carry permit holder’s worst nightmare.
Ung handled the situation better than most would have. He tried to leave. He didn’t draw until attacked. And he kicked his attackers before resorting to shooting. All around, good job. Open and shut case if Ung had been attacked by some random mugger. Shooting the son of a well-connected man, however, made Ung’s life hard. Pressing charges against Ung in this case is the affluent white people’s version of my baby dint do nuffin. Should have never gone to trial and the prosecutor should be tarred and feathered.
All that said, DiDonato was ultimately shot for being a douchebag who was too stupid to quit when he should have. I guess he had something to prove. All he proved was that he wasn’t bullet proof.
In Alaska: A Fairbanks woman nearly severed a man’s hand with a sword early Saturday morning as he was trying to break into her bedroom, according to Fairbanks police.
Josh Horwitz of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence says that the mass gun confiscations that happened after Katrina, that were caught on tape, and that the city lost a lawsuit over was all one big conspiracy promoted by the NRA.
You don’t have to be delusional to be anti-gun. But it helps.
Don’t put wire mesh on your windows. It might hurt burglars and rapists.
In 2008 alone Mexico received some $204 million in U.S. military arms shipments approved for export. So just how are these weapons finding their way into the hands of the drug cartels?
Defectors work for the drug cartels. But remember, it’s those Arizona gun shows that are the problem.
Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership Board Member, Joan Peterson:
I give you the argument of the guys with the “man pants” on ladies and gentlemen-” We’re saying that we’d rather have more gun deaths and lower overall violent crime, than zero gun deaths and higher rates of violent crime if given the choice” And there you have it. Nothing more to say here except “Wow” and “unbelievable”
She’s saying she’d rather have more overall violent crime than any gun crime.
A bill to ban stoplight texting. Via Xrlq, who says Coming next: a ban on drinking and not-driving. Well, there have been a few cases of folks in parked cars sleeping one off being charged and convicted of DUI.
US troops apparently love the XM-25. Honestly, who doesn’t love an airburst grenade launcher?
Senate proposed bill requiring you to show photo ID before voting. We should run background checks on people too and charge a $10 fee.
Two mass knife attacks this week. And a carjacking in Memphis with knives and machetes.
We need an assault knife ban!
In yesterday’s post, I got caught up in the legalities of the wallet holster. I’m glad someone else addresses why it’s a bad design for reasons other than legal concerns.
In Tennessee, the police aren’t supposed to do that anymore. Nashville police are just going to keep them, I suppose indefinitely. They don’t want to sell them for fear they’ll end up back on the street. If you sell them lawfully to a dealer who will then run background checks, then what’s the issue?
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
