Gun Bills in Congress
Been a lot of talk about various gun control bills proposed in light of the Tucson shooting. John Richardson notes a couple of pro-gun bills in the works too.

Mind your manners. And don’t be a dick.
Seriously, you have to win hearts and minds. And taking your shotgun to the local library because you can is not the way you do that.
And ignorant. Lawrence O’Donnell says NRA is a blood-drenched organization that is paid by gun manufacturers. You know, or members’ dues. The good ol’ triangle of death
Two odd things happened recently that highlight how most folks have no idea what’s going on around them. First, a tree fell in the woods and I was there to hear it and see it. The wife and a friend were heading out of town and her friend came to our place. It was really windy. I was helping load the car when I heard a loud popping sound. It was VERY LOUD. Immediately, I looked in the direction of the sound and saw about a 90 foot tree falling in the woods beside the house. As it fell, it hit all manner of other trees before crashing loudly on the leaf-covered ground. Once again, this was VERY LOUD. As in, you couldn’t hear another person talking to you loud. Wife’s friend continues loading the car while this is going on. Doesn’t look up. Continues about her business. And after it’s quiet, we have a conversation that goes roughly like this:
Me: That tree fell.
Her: It did?
Me: Yes. How could you not have heard that?
Her: Oh. I thought I heard something.
Me: It was deafeningly loud. You definitely heard it.
Her: Yeah.
Me: You weren’t curious about what that God awful racket was?
Her: No.
Me: Good thing it wasn’t falling on you then.
I don’t see how a person can hear the same sound I heard and not even be the slightest bit curious enough about it to bother looking up to make sure something bad wasn’t happening.
The next was at a sandwich shop. I ordered a sammich and was waiting for them to get it to me. I stood there in the area designated to stand around and wait for food. And this guy there kept getting too close to me. He had no respect for personal space. He’d get too close and I would step away. Then he’d do it again. After the third or fourth time, I had enough. And I said to him, stepping away, that You’re too close to me. You need to pay attention to what you’re doing. No, he wasn’t absorbed in his phone or anything like that. He didn’t look odd or awkward or inebriated. Just a guy in business casual who seemed to be completely unaware that, yes, there are actually other people in the world. He didn’t say anything back. But he started minding his personal space a little better.
I don’t see how people go through life like that.
Ry Posted a cancellation notification a couple years back where Travelers canceled someone’s insurance because they had “an assault rifle”.
I’ve been included on a few emails between a Nashville MD named Steven who had the same thing happen:
I thought you might find the enclosed correspondence interesting.
I am a law-abiding American citizen with a legally acquired firearm collection, kept securely in a gun safe. I recently thought to add my firearms to my “Scheduled items” on my High Value Homeowners Policy with Travelers Insurance and duly supplied them with full details including serial numbers of my various pistols and shotgun and a Stag 2T .223 semiautomatic rifle.
Through my insurance broker, Travelers Insurance Company informed me that the rifle was “illegal” and, as such was uninsurable. After lengthy communication with my broker who pointed out that the firearm in question is perfectly legal, and in fact, one of the most commonly owned rifles in the US, Travelers then modified their position, stating that this firearm was “undesirable” and that unless I sold or otherwise relinquished my ownership of this firearm, they would decline to continue BOTH my homeowners policy AND my umbrella coverage.
Other insurance companies are perfectly willing to provide coverage for these firearms, under a homeowners policy, so I would like the to ask Travelers Insurance, through your media why they do not support my 2nd Amendment rights and are forcing me to relinquish those rights in order to sell me an insurance policy?
I would also like this brought to the attention to as many people as possible, so that they may make an informed decision when choosing an insurance company for all of their insurance needs.
I have a few policies with them both personally and professionally. That will end soon.
If you’re gonna off yourself, do so in the privacy of your own home. Don’t do so in a method that will lead to a complete shutdown of the interstate. Honestly, do you want your last earthly act to be being a dick?
Update: Jumper was rescued.
ATF was dismissive of Senator Grassley’s inquiries. So he’s pushing the issue again. He’s investigating ATF for allowing guns to be smuggled into Mexico.
Joe has a video showing why limiting standard capacity magazines will do nothing.
A gun offender registry. Eventually, there will be a list for all of us.
Doesn’t exist in Cleveland where a reverend had his property taken:
An incident report describes the visit as a crisis intervention, which according to police policy must end with a psychiatric evaluation, hospital commitment or both. Henry, city officials confirmed Tuesday, voluntarily admitted himself to Lutheran Hospital for an evaluation.
On Friday, again with Henry’s permission, police searched a farm that St. Herman’s uses in Bloomfield Township, located about 15 miles north of Warren in Trumbull County. There, they found and confiscated 150 more guns and 1,314 additional boxes of ammunition, according to a second report.
Police allowed reporters to view the recovered firearms Tuesday afternoon. Handguns filled four milk crates. Rifles and shotguns filled three large white carts on wheels. The guns included rifles with scopes and at least three assault weapons. Police described two of them as M4 assault rifles. Some of the guns appeared new, while others were old, battered with scratches in their wooden stocks. A few of the weapons appeared to be antiques.
Having lots of guns and acting in an unapproved fashion means they’ll take your guns and send you to a mental facility. Where you could be adjudicated as mentally defective and lose your rights. And this is rich:
Flask said that Cleveland officials know and respect that people have the right to purchase as many guns as they can afford.
Apparently not.

On one hand, Republicans have a hard time reigning in their tea party counterparts. On the other, 31 tea partiers vote for the PATRIOT Act.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
