The Mexican Gun Canard

Once again, the myth that 90% of guns in Mexico come from American gun shows is busted.

Flashlights and guns

This SI article on flashlight shooting techniques got me to thinking. On the one hand, I can see the need for a flashlight mounted to a handgun for home defense. On the other hand, if your only source of light is on the end of your gun, that sounds like a setup for some major Rule 2 violations. Thoughts?

Golf ball launcher

That is so 2007. But everyone is emailing it to me.

Quote of the Day

Or why I carry a Glock:

[i]f … you treat your pistols like we all treat our lawnmowers then don’t get a 1911 – use a Glock.

10/22 Arrow Conversion

Convert your 10/22 to fire arrows using blanks. Ok, then.

Still more on the Ung case

More here from Sebastian and the comments here are interesting. Looking more and more like self defense to me. Three athletic men taunt you and push you for a block. Then rush you. The reason this case seems to be a big deal is because of the video. And, maybe, because the father of the attacker is a partner at a law firm.

The officer who approached him initially was not in uniform and was working a plain clothes side gig as club security. Sorry, I’m not handing over a weapon to a bouncer either.

What’s happening in Ohio

First, an editor comes out and admits all his prior yammering on “blood in the streets” with respect to gun laws was wrong and unfounded. And he changes his mind on the issue.

And now this observation:

I learned that people who are deathly afraid of firearms and wouldn’t dream of handling one, much less owning one, actually may be incapable of seeing them as defensive weapons.

This time at the until recently referred to as Plain Squealer. They do seem to be rather incapable of rational thought.

Lots of sites and services set parameters so that you can’t have a user name that is offensive. Every once in a while, one slips through:

Attacking religion can get you sued:

Former FBI agent (fired for complaining about privacy abuses) who now works for the ACLU:

The most disturbing thing we’ve uncovered is the scope of domestic intelligence activities taking place today. Domestic spying is now being done by a host of federal agencies (FBI, DOD, DHS, DNI) as well as state and local law enforcement and even private companies. Too often this spying targets political activity and religious practices. We’ve documented intelligence activities targeting or obstructing First Amendment-protected activity in 33 states and DC.
