What if you had a rational debate and no one noticed?
On one hand, I can see why some folks rail against the one or two anti-gun bloggers out there. They think maybe someone on the fence is reading those blogs and can be convinced. Unlikely. No one reads them but us. Well, you. I don’t read them. I’m afraid the stupid will rub off. I don’t read japete or Mike or whatever the other idiots are getting kicked around out there. Japete’s only use is that she’s a Brady Board member so when she says something really stupid (which she does a rate of fire faster than any semi-automatic spray fires bullets from the hip), you can note it for later use when the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership once again moves those goal posts. Otherwise, they’re useless and no one reads them.
Another reason to do it is to essentially point out their stupidity and note they are on the losing side of history. Still, not enough to keep me entertained.
Been meaning to say that for a while but the reason I finally did was because of these similar thoughts from Tam.

My observation is that people who support the opposition often do so because they are unable to evaluate evidence and argument, and select their position based on other factors.
It is precisely because they are unable to evaluate evidence and argument, they are unable to recognize that they are defeated in rational discussion.
Without recognition of their defeat, they blindly and with deliberate obtuseness proceed to press their position, simply because there is no real world consequence to them for doing so.
And it is for this reason that my new years resolution for 2011 is not to get into arguments with abject idiots on the Internet.

Oh, I’d also like to state for the record that I do not hit her blog, but only her RSS feed. And I don’t generally link to her to keep the traffic sent down.

I used to interact with MikeB and JadeGold on Mike’s blog quite a bit. But an incident there made me ask myself “Why bother?”. I wouldn’t stand around and take abuse from a crazy man ranting on a street corner, while his even crazier sidekick flung poo at me. So why do it in the virtual world?
