Detained

In Florida, folks are unlawfully detained for using large bills at tolls.

I recently saw, for the first time here in Texas, a grocery store cashier run the $100 bill I gave her through a device at her checkout counter, which determined that my bill was real, not counterfeit.

I suppose these have been around a while, but this is the first time I saw it used. Previously, the cashier checked for the plastic strip and watermark by holding the bill up to the light and looking through it.

I suppose either of these techniques was too expensive or too complicated for Florida tollway cashiers to use, and detaining persons for several minutes each made more sense to the DOT.

I see free Sunday travel for everyone for about a month of Sundays coming for the DOT in Florida.

Mikee: it isn’t about counterfeiting. It was about tracking suspicious people, and more importantly suspicious minorities, for the most part.

When you make it policy to give toll takers an excuse to help track suspicious people, you the people considered suspicious are up to the whim of the toll takers.

You can bet no rich white dudes in Ashton-Martins got gigged for handing a $100 bill to a toll person.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
