My personal favorite, however, was that parents should stop such games and have the kids play “peacemaking” by creating “a roundtable with a mediator and write a peace accord.”
That is just fucked up in so many ways… I also advocate peace through the part of diplomacy called “other means”…
This is nuts. My brothers and I grew up with cap guns, sticks and swords and so did my dad and his brothers, none of us are insane murderers. My kids use Nerf guns and swords and I came home last night to my 8 and 3 year olds having a Nerf sword fight against two neighbor kids in the front yard. I got out of the car and gave them pointers on their swordsmanship until the sun went down. Junior United Nations would go over like a lead balloon.
Personally, I agree with Elmer Keith on the toy guns thing. Toy guns teach irresponsible practice and bad habits. Ask any firearms instructor who is easier to teach, males or females, and they will tell you females nearly every time. Males have bad habits they’ve picked up. When I have kids I will only let them play with gun like objects that actually fire projectiles which can hurt, like airsoft guns. That way, with proper supervision, they’ll learn good gun handling habits early.
