What you do instead of something
The anti-meth hysteria will drive up health care costs for families. And, in general, is a waste of time. On the radio this morning, I heard an ad from Stop Meth Not Meds advocating calling TN reps to tell them knock it off:
Tennessee lawmakers have introduced legislation (HB181/SB 561) that would require a doctor’s prescription for medicines containing pseudoephedrine, while other legislators are supporting a better solution (SB 325/HB 234) – an e-tracking solution.
I agree that we should not have to get a doctor’s note to treat a runny nose. Unfortunately, the group does advocate a sudafed registry.

Lift all the restrictions. Cooking meth is a crime, so Police can stop and arrest you.
And if they don’t, meth is a self-correcting problem.

There’s already an ephedrine registry in some states (including TN). The problem isn’t catching the meth heads the problem is the hazardous waste clean up their labs leave. The was federal money to cover that but its been eliminated and the cost now falls on the local government. Cost for even a small lab is around $5000. When you multiply that times hundreds of labs you begin to see the problem.

TV stations in the Fla. panhandle/south Ga. area run anti-meth ads frequently. And at high volume.
Asked my b-in-law “How big is the meth problem down here?”
“Oh, there’s no problem. You can get all the meth you want.”
He then got serious and said fires started in meth labs had killed several people in the tri-state area (Fla./Ala./Ga.) and displaced scores.
Along with the HazMat situation Mike V. mentioned the endangerment of neighbors is of major concern.
Legalizing it would enable us to cull the herd and keep people from blowing up the neighbors.
Heartless? I worked too many mids at the jail to care.

I think you are obviously over reacting. Meth cookers are peaceful types who will politely close up shop once thier legal supply of chemical stock has been banned.
And I think we all realize that there is NO possible way to obtain items other than legally… Next thing you’ll tell me is that dealers / users have been known to stick up drug stores or hospitals… Utter silliness, no drug dealer has ever used violence ever.
EVER!

Meth labs are a problem everywhere. Don’t have the answer, but it’s not in denying legitimate purchases of cold medicine.

They did this in MS so now my family, who have chronic sinus problems, just hop across the line into LA to buy theirs….
