Rather unfounded conclusion. National Review does periodically discuss 2nd amendment rights. Tried searching the NRO site and came up with well over 100 hits. Not exactly ignoring the topic.
David Kopel has articles there as a columnist so I’d say the editorial staff was looking for comment.

As comments both here and at the original article have pointed out, NR has addressed the 2nd Amendment many times in the past. I used to read the dead-tree edition religiously in the ’90s and I remember reading an article against the AW Ban.
It’s just not their particular hobby horse. It is true that in the past some their columnists were fairly ambivalent about the issue (Buckley himself, I believe). But they certainly aren’t an anti-gun rag.
