Like you and me, only better
Special laws for special people:
Some California lawmakers want easier access to carry concealed guns
They say their job has become dangerous, citing the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson and threats from constituents. Baca objects to singling out elected officials.

Elected officials commit felonies at a much higher rate than the general public.

Well, well. For once, I agree with Baca. Either the Legislature can go for Vermont-style carry, or they can suffer the same indignities the Sheriffs of the PDRK inflict on us.

Do they ride the special bus to work too???

Those in the know are indicating that this will actually be good for us.

Crotalus,
I agree. A Vermont/Alaska style law would make it easily possible for CA legislators to exercise their right to carry the means of self-defense. But I would think that many of them would object to applying “the equal protection of the laws” (14th Amendment) by which it would apply to their EMPLOYERS.

They wouldn’t get so many threats if they’d quit acting like a bunch of asshats.

I wonder if the RKBA community could get the public to support allowing adults working at a lawful job to carry without a permit? Farmers get death threats from PETA. Lumberjacks get death threats from environwackos. Pizza delivery, driving a beer truck, taking out the trash in a bad part of town – people doing their jobs may represent a more palatable cohort than saying ‘everybody’.

This is where, in my Ideal Fantasy World, NO POLITICIAN would EVER be allowed to be ARMED for ANY Reason. Keeps them Honest when they have to tell their Bosses (WE, THE PEOPLE) what they’re up to and what they want to do. Sigh! But I live in this Universe, so….

Hey, if they want those threats they’re using as an excuse to have any credibility, they’d better be ready to let the public have the means to implement those threats.
/sarc, in case you’re too dense to catch it on your own.

Hrm, I see an equal protection argument.

Sacramento is full of crooks and felons – I wonder how many of those cheats can actually get police clearance?
March 14th, 2011 at 7:50 pm
DirtCrashr: I’d expect they write the law so they’re exempt from and police clearance. Just a, “wow, you’re in office, you’re special now” type thing.
