In NYC
A misleading letter is being sent around by the NYPD to get people to turn in their lawfully-owned pre-ban, regular-capacity magazines.

Why is Hosni Bloomberg so Paranoid? Does he think that the people of NYC will rise up and demand he quit like all those Middle Eastern Dictators? Or did he finally do the math and realize that, if Push came to Shove, he doesn’t have enough Cops to cover his ass and ensure he can stay Mayor-for-Life? Hurts when you find out that you really don’t have Superior Firepower on your side, doesn’t it, Mikey? P.S.: don’t expect help from Barry. He’s on the Olympic “Toss you under the Bus in a Heartbeat” Squad, remember?

Sounds like mail fraud.

I’d say this “burdens” the exercise of a constitutional right, and the trickery is evidence of the intent to do so. I like Lyle’s clever legal theory of mail fraud, too.

“Police officers . . . who improperly abuse the rights of individual Americans have long been recognized in federal law as a threat to society as a whole. That’s why, immediately after the Civil War, Congress approved Title 18 USC 242 — a statute making it a crime to deprive any person of their rights ‘under color of law.'”
Mail fraud and abuse of authority, and that’s just on the federal level. Conning people into destroying their lawfully possessed property is dishonest to the point of criminality. This from the NYPD under Commissioner Ray Kelly, who wants to head the FBI.
