M&P 9 Stuff
All the cool kids seem to like them.
I had somehow missed this torture test of one. Over 62K rounds, two stoppages, three parts breakages. 0 malfunctions. Until the slide cracked. S&W said to keep shooting it after inspecting. But their lawyers said no.

Shooting with a cracked slide… Genius… I wonder if they would also advocate shooting with a bulged barrel..

Looking at the slide, and knowing it’s one solid piece of machined barstock, I’d take a dremel to the spot, then proceed to happily shoot it.

There’s a lot to like. I chose my MP9 a few years ago (before I’d heard of Chris Costa mind you) after evaluating all of the current generation of polymer duty-style pistols. I liked the fit in my hand, the simplicity, and the materials selection. Oh, and Smith does seem to have a decent reputation for warranty work.
The only drawbacks I have found are that the trigger reset is mushy and the sights will rust immediately if rained on (whereas the slide didn’t.) I believe both of these issues are addressable by the aftermarket, which is growing nicely for the M&P series.
I like mine so much that I have no desire for any other autopistol, and I’ve pretty much shot ’em all. Even my vaunted HK gathers dust.

The pistols are tanks. IMHO, best of the plastic guns (and I own a bunch of Glocks and XDs).

How’s the M&P .45? I don’t have any 9mm ammo we’re all .45acp vested here…

Meanwhile, over in Gen. 4 Glockland… but hey, after 15 years, you would think S+W has finally debugged the Sigma, right? You change the things that are broke to make them right, not change the things that are right to make them broke, Gaston.
