Don’t like being criticized???? Get off your dead ass & do your job. Seen this kind of thing happen in years past as a L.E.O. Your job doesn’t include arresting everyone who disagrees with you. Everybody criticizes the cops, it’s a Constitutional guarantee, which you swore to uphold & defend.
The cops were found to be PERSONALLY liable? As in, they have to pay out of their own pockets?
If so, this is a significant victory.
Part of the reason why some law enforcement officers believe they can get away with “contempt of cop” arrests is that they assume they will suffer no direct, personal harm as a consequence. The city will pay the victim, the union will shield the cop, and his supervisors will slap him on the wrist and tell him to move on with his life.
The calculus changes, however, if it’s your money, property, or liberty at stake when you decide to over-step the boundaries of your office.

Am I understanding this right?

If so, this is a significant victory.

“if it’s your money, property, or liberty at stake when you decide to over-step the boundaries of your office.”
That’s known as personal accountability for one’s actions. Something that’s too lacking for LEOs, politicos, judges, etc.
