I laughed when they were carrying him up to the boat. He had the same “I’m in trouble” look my dog used to have. Maybe he thought they would blame him for the house becoming a raft.
I doubt seriously that the dog survived by eating dead people.
The dog survived because dogs are tough critters, and can easily go three weeks without food, if they are well-fed and healthy at the beginning of their long fast.
