Knife rights
In Maine, automatic unfolding knives made legal for people with the use of one arm. You probably know them by their scary name switchblades.

So what. Nc has had that for years. Why exactly does a one armed man need a switchblade more than anyone else? Not like gravity knives do not exist.

I can’t too bent out of shape when it comes to a law like this, but don’t the lawmakers see how stupid it is at its core?
I mean you can OC in Maine without a permit, you can CCW with a permit. You can carry folding knives and fixed blades to your heart’s content…but a blade that opens at the push of a button, that’s dangerous as hell…or something.
I really hate the “That’s how its always been” mentality.

“The bill to allow amputees and other one-armed people”
Umm…

John: Most “automatic knife” statutes seem to include gravity knives as well – certainly the Federal ones did last I checked.
Breda: The congentially one-armed are not amputees!

It’s gonna be blood running in the streets, I tells ya. Dodge City, High Noon knife fights over minor traffic incidents…

According to Wikipedia, 15 U.S.C. § 1244 says that handicapped people with the use of only one arm are authorized to possess and transport a switchblade with a blade of 3″ or less.
Wouldn’t that override any state laws banning switchblades? As far as the one-armed go, I mean.
Also, there should be more Fugitive jokes here. Richard Kimble is very disappointed in all of you.

No, the federal law only creates an exemption for one-armed people to possess a switchblade that has traveled across state lines. Aside from LEOs or military “line of duty” possession, there pretty much isn;t ANY exemption for an automatic knife that has crossed a state line.
Under federal law, switchblades are closer to prohibited than machineguns.
