Another newspaper hurting for readership, relevancy

Iowa paper publishes list of carry permit holders. I think these privacy concerns are a good reason to push for constitutional carry, like several states recently did.

I believe it’s time to publish the names and addresses of everyone who works at that paper.

  2. Ron W Says:

When a State requires personal information for the RIGHT to carry the means of self-defense, that State should at the very least be responsible for keeping the information private. But then, to even require a carry permit and personal information for it is unconstitutional and thus unlawful. It would be the same if a permit was required of the reporters, columnists and editorial writers of the newspaper. I’ll bet they would vigorously resist that!

If I were a trainer in that area, I’d be sending adverts to folks NOT on the list, offering them a discount to take classes.
Maybe point out that now there is proof that they do not have a carry permit, which would be advantageous to criminals…

Sounds like there needs to be list of all those who are Registered DemiCommies, and all the Crimes they might have ever done, down to Traffic Tickets, and Publish that List. Then, when they run for Office, they can be called out for their Misdeeds in the Public Forum.

Did not slow down the Commercial Appeal one iota.

Yes; COnstitutional Carry nationwide. In the meantime, make it a very serious crime to share the information about license holders with anyone – instant deportation to Cuba after a severe beating and a week in the stocks in the town square.

The link to the story changed: http://www.dmcityview.com/2011/04/21/features/coverstory/

I live in Polk County Iowa, and my name is on the list. At least they did not publish the address, unlike some of the other instances around the country. However, this paper and it’s editor and staff were against the recent switch to a shall-issue state, and wrote about it with the same tired scenarios-that-never-happen hysteria: arguments will end in shootouts, why in the world does anyone need a gun to go grocery shopping, etc.. Meanwhile, there were already many thousands of permits issued in Iowa already, only now the Sheriff can’t say no on a whim. Too bad “city view” we are WINNING.

To expand on Linoge’s comment, The Commercial Appeal had the nerve and stupidity to have a table at a gun show very shortly afterward, TRYING to give away copies of their rag and sell subscriptions. Of course, the guy behind the table catching all the abuse was not one of the front-office types that made the decision.

Have not read a line of that rag since, and they can’t go out of business fast enough to suit me.

I split my time between Iowa City and Des Moines. Because of this, I haven’t been able to find the time to register for a CC course, which is why my name isn’t on this list. Several of my friends weren’t so lucky. My opinion of citiview before this was that it’s a rag undeserving of my attention.
This course is a blight on the sheriff’s department, which seems to have provide the information. My one hope is that people in Polk County are apathetic enough to let this story die like the rest of citiview’s worthless attempts at relevance without searching for their neighbors’ names. Luckily, in this day and age, few comfortably suburban Iowans wave ‘hello’ to their neighbors, much less know their names.

  11. Jason in Iowa Says:

Oh, I should clarify: “The City View” paper (free weekly) was against the new shall-issue law after it was already signed into law by our Democrat (now former) Governor. That should give you some idea how on top of the issue they are. But hey, it starts a fire in my fireplace as good as any paper!

  12. Paul B Says:

The writer has a face book page. I don’t have the link right handy, but he looks to be the classic basement dweller that is looking for the lime light trying to be edgy.

Needs a good beating by my lights.

BTW my name is on the list.

Crud. I think I had better keep an eye on the Courier…

Also, methinks that someone needs to publish a list of their staff.

  14. Zombie Rush Says:

That list is crap. I know a ton more people not on it. I’m looking at one of the permits right now. My name is there, though. Guess I’m just an early adopter.

  15. Bruce H. Says:

I get a 403 error. Maybe they took it down?

  16. Bruce H. Says:

Nope. Still there. But I had to go through their home page to see it.

    Redeeming qualities: zero.

  18. Ron W Says:

Newspapers should have the benefit of the First Amendment just as much as those who choose to carry the means of self-defense should have full benefit of the 2nd Amendment.

The onus should be on State governments and officials. First of all, no State should require a permit to exercise 2nd Amendment rights in violation of the 4th Amendment, but if they do, then that State is responsible to keep the required personal information private. State officials and agents should be legally culpable if they release it to be published.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
