Secure wifi
Someone downloads child porn using a man’s unsecured connection. The police swarm in and point guns at him.

Do they start raiding coffee shop parking lots?

FYI even securing your personal wireless network with WPA2 isn’t foolproof. If you make your password something like “rover” I can break it in about 30 minutes. Make it something like, “r0v3r_Iz_t3h_b3$t_d@wG_iN_t3h_wuRld” and it becomes immensely harder 🙂

Heck, even something simple, like “ray next time someone asks you if youre a god you say yes” is effectively impossible to brute force. You don’t even have to do the upper/lower-case-with-numbers-and-symbols thing, if it’s sufficiently long. The key is making it easy for you to remember and hard for others to guess, and phrases are best for that.

The real question here is how anyone thought that just an IP address was sufficient probable cause for an armed raid.
When was the last time you heard about a pedophile being violent with anyone that weighed more than 100 lbs?

Another thing:
“For two hours that March morning in Buffalo, agents tapped away at the homeowner’s desktop computer, eventually taking it with them, along with his and his wife’s iPads and iPhones.”
If they typed ANYTHING then they destroyed the forensic value of the computer. Take a picture of the screen, open the task manager and take a picture of that (or Top) and then yank the plug from the wall.
These guys are technically illiterate cowboys.

It’s widely known that firemen tend to be pyromaniacs, who keep that tendency under tight control. I betcha that the zealous prosecutors of pedophiles have an analogous problem. Did y’all know that there is a first-class database, somewhere in Sweden, with thousands of images of the most revolting kiddy porn, searchable by age, sex, particular perversion, background colors, etc., you name it? It is accessible only to policemen, of course, because cops can do no wrong.
As someone has said, a police uniform is the perfect disguise for a criminal.

What gets me is how quickly after the download the police showed up. Looks to me like the cops were hosting the child porn.
