Gun sales up
Wal-mart bring gun sales to more stores because gun sales are up. Which is odd, because the Violence Policy Center tells me that gun ownership is on the decline.

And Wal-mart today said their customers are ‘running out of money’.
That means they have maxed out their ‘happy cards'(Wal-mart charge cards) and sales are declining.
That’s hope and change for ya.
2012 can’t come to soon!!!

Yeah. Noticed over Easter that the local Wal Mart had a well stocked selection of rifles and shotguns. Which they had gotten rid of a couple of years ago.
Had some 10/22’s, a bunch of Remington 700s and 770s, and a Ruger Ranch Mini 14. And a Cricket. Which at $120 was too much to waste on a rifle my son would outgrow in a year. He got a Red Ryder BB gun instead.

Well, are you going to believe what VPC says or your own lying eyes?

I thought it looked like they’d upgraded their gun area at the local Walmart but couldn’t be sure since I buy my guns from small business up the freeway a bit.

Here in Bismarck, ND where we drink “pop” the north Wal-Mart is selling guns again…nice to see that.

I admit to mixed feelings. This is a victory of sorts for freedom in general, but, on the whole, I’d rather see guns bought at locally owned shops.
OTOH, Wally-world can offer the limited selection they have at lower prices than anyone else.

Below is the link to the Walmart firearms catalog. They will order you anything from that catalog and with their price matching policy will match catalog or online pricing for rifles & shotguns. Free delivery to store and no FFL transfer fees make the applicable sales tax seem not too hard to swallow.

I won’t buy guns from wal-mart. They get enough money from ammo. And I would rather support my local shops in that regard. Until I made the promise that I will only buy private party unless what I am looking for I can’t get used.

@Shawn: My LGS is the only game in town and they are total douchebags. I can only hope that Walmart will squeeze the life out of them.

My local Wal-Mart and the one down in Galveston stopped selling firearms a few years back. Be interesting to see if they go back to selling them. Bet you it stays long guns only though. I remember asking one Wal-Mart clerk why no handguns were sold and he had a one word answer for me: “California”.
I have a few long guns that were purchased at Wal-Mart, but yeah, I’d rather support independent gun stores in my local area as well.
