Similar event occurred up here in Cleveland last year. However, the Police, who were stationed just around the corner not watching the streets, made a valiant effort to waddle after the shooter, but alas, were not able to apprehend the suspects. They are still on the loose, and someday soon…anyway, the victim lived. Our local Problem is that, although we have CCW and Castle Doctrine in Ohio, we don’t have OC or Carry in Bars. But progress is being made.
It always gets me when these “expert” a-holes say to just throw your money and run away… because, y’know, not everyone is capable of running, myself included.
Anyway, besides the current restaurant carry ban, Ohio’s biggest problem is that we have a duty to retreat if not in our dwelling or vehicle. Such as was the case here, and we see how well that worked out for him.
BornLib: Yes, under the Law, we have OC. But with the passage of SB184 in 2008 ( which led to Ohio Revised Code 2923.126), all the places that, technically, one COULD Open Carry tend to be nullified because of all the various restrictions and “Private Employers” and “Signage Clauses”, etc. So, if one can’t OC in One’s Own Car w/o a CCW Permit, nor in Gov’t. Buildings, Banks, Courts, Schools and Universities, Day Care Centers, Hospitals, Drug Stores, Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, “D” Liquor Permit Holders and any Business or Store that puts up it’s ‘No Guns Allowed” Sign, we have in place DE FACTO NO OC. So, even if one has a CCW permit, there are so many places that restrict you, we are, in effect, living under Anti-Gun “Jim Crow” laws. It’s better than it was 20 years ago, but we still have a long way to go.

Duty to retreat is bullshit. I retreat from what I think is trouble. When I know I’m in grave trouble its time to fight.
