Kathy Jackson, AKA Pax, dang near tossed me from the old High Road board for remarks I made about some Star Wars dickhead fan, who posted a pic of himself in “Jedi Knight” garb. I would not have minded, had not Hal Clement just died, and I was all exercised about ignorant juvenile dickheads who did not understand real SF.
I reckon I should be tolerant of juvenile dickheads, as the blogs of some people I kind of like are written by juvenile dickheads who wish to do this “credit check ” thing on prospective employees, something which was entirely un-heard-of when I was Uncle’s age.
If one wished to hire somebody for a responsible position, he required the prospective employee to post a bond. If said p.e. didn’t have the bucks for that, a deal was made with an insurance company. This worked just fine for several hundred years.
Back when I was coming up, one’s credit history was entirely private, and one’s creditors and debtors would not think of telling each other, or other people, whether or not one had paid on time, or defaulted, or whatever, unless they were willing to go to court. Of course, these days, lots of people are sucking Bankster Dick.
