Getting them hooked early
Chuck E. Cheese’s getting sued because it hooks kids on gambling. Odd, I was just there this weekend and thought it just got kids hooked on video games, cheap toys and crappy pizza.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

I fully understand that the threat of a lawsuit is the only thing that forces some businesses to follow the law, but the problem is that the lawyers in this country have gotten totally out of control.
Every business has to spend large amounts of time and money avoiding legal liability. I think it has gotten to the point where these lawsuits are harming the country more than the unscrupulous behavior of the companies who would rip off consumers.

With respect, did I miss the part where Chuck E. Cheese’s ripped anyone off?

Hmmm. I see two flaws in her “logic”.
a) the games are legal, and are not considered gambling devices under her state’s laws, and
b) if she thinks they’re encouraging gambling in children, maybe she should act like a parent and not take her kids there.
The courts are not supposed to be a substitute for being a parent!

Friends, we’ve got trouble. Right here in River City.
Last year they said parents got in a lot of fights there.
Almost 50 years ago, a fella opened a new roller skating rink in my town, and the Mothers’ Club was against that.

speaker: I mean businesses in general. There are a lot of businesses that make decisions based upon what they can get away with, instead of what is right. (Bank of America and the forging of foreclosure documents comes to mind) Lawyers can balance that by making those kinds of poor decisions more costly through litigation.
The problem here is that the cure has become worse than the disease. There are too many lawyers chasing too few cases, so they begin to expand the scope of cases until we see ridiculous lawsuits like this.
