#$%@!
Right there. Right at 2:52. Dickson Police Chief Ricky Chandler nails it all the way home:
“What we’re doin, we’re takin’ advantage of how the laws are; to be able to use the money to put back to fight the drugs.”
That’s a ranking LEO openly proclaiming that they are taking advantage of the law. That stands out to me.

What’s the threshold for “mucho mucho dinero”? $100? $1000? I mean, I’ve carried $1000 cash in my vehicle before and it certainly wasn’t drug proceeds.
Plus, why do all these folks consent to search?
May 18th, 2011 at 11:28 am
I suspect they consent because they believe that refusing consent would give the police Probable Cause to search their car. This is why we have a fifth amendment, but except for real criminals, it isn’t much use any more.

These are the tennessee cops I know. Notice Dice keeps away from davidson county. The one place more corrupt then they are..

“Plus, why do all these folks consent to search?”
Looks like the ones that made it on camera consenting are non-English speakers. I suspect they’re taking advantage of ignorance of the law.
I’m sure the drug guys know when and where they can be searched.

Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. Those too stupid and lazy to get a real job become cops.

What’s news is old.
This crap has been going on for what, 30 years now (or is it only 20)?

If you refuse consent, they will hold you until a drug sniffing K9 arrives and will alert on your car, giving them probable cause. Or they will find a reason to arrest you, and then they can search your car incident to your arrest and the impounding of their car.
Remember, the arrest doesn’t have to stick, it only has to be plausible enough to let them search. As a firefighter, I work around a lot of cops, and I see it all the time. Their saying is, “You can beat the charges, but you can’t beat the ride.”

Don’t tell me someone is not skimming off the top. Somebody goes home with extra spending money.
One of their tricks is to have a little weed in their car. They rub their hand on it then on to the suspect’s car. The dog picks up the smell. Then they have their “PC”.
