Oh, that’s why they say ‘don’t mess with Texas’
Because when you do mess with them, they fold like a lawn chair:
A bill prohibiting intrusive pat downs at airports appears to be dead in the Texas Senate after a threat from the federal government.

Sen. Dan Patrick was the sponsor of this bill.
Tom Gresham discussed him in length on this past Sunday’s GunTalk. Patrick was the author of a bill that passed the Texas Senate which would allow any current or former member of the Texas Legislature to carry concealed in places forbidden to you or me.
Sounds like Sen. Patrick needs to go back to being a radio talk show host.

Sen. Patrick isn’t perfect, but he is one of THE BEST we have in office right now. His pro’s vastly outnumber his con’s. For full disclosure, I do live in his district, and I will vote for him again.

Realistically, the bill was a waste of time in the first place. As it was written, it would have been stayed immediately by a judge and then overturned as being a violation of the Federal Government’s reserved powers.
A better option is available anyways, states can simply tell the TSA to get out of their airports and handle the security themselves.

It is about time to throw all of those weak knee jaw slackers out of office and vote in some that will stand up against the federal bullying.
Shame on them!

Guess the slogan should say.
Don’t mess with Texas; Molest Texas…

Looks like I have a twin…

Personally, I’m wondering if Perry wasn’t behind this. It’s the sort of thing he doesn’t need if he will be throwing his hat in the ring presently, and it would be easy and in character for him to say, “leave this alone right now, and it won’t be an issue come 2013.”
May 26th, 2011 at 2:41 pm
Another perfect example of why Perry really is not the republican savior that we all want. He buckled. Like a belt.

“…dead in the Texas Senate after a threat from the federal government.”
If using threats is the way things get done now, well, threats can go both directions.
We had an Idaho gubernatorial candidate who was ready, willing and eager to defy the federal government on more than one issue, but since he was a Mormon who said “God” one in a while, you all dismissed him without a word.

Yeah, OK, so the FEDs would have shut down the law on the whole “inter-state commerce” thing. Got it.
But what if the law had specified that TSA agents were liable to arrest if they had molested a passenger flying WITHIN Texas ONLY? Now the implications of THAT would have been worth the price of admission.
Eh, what does it matter? The states are now firmly attached to the federal teat. They would no more assert their right of interposition (look it up) than a newborn child would refuse the breast.
And the absolutely worst part is that 80-90% of the country could care less or is firmly convinced that TSA is working hard to “keep us safe”. That includes a large swath of conservatives, BTW.

LOL
‘Don’t mess with Texas’ is actually the slogan for the statewide anti-littering campaign.
I love it when it’s used out of context.

Why am I NOT surprised by the Gov’t threats… That seems to be this administration’s mode of operation…
May 26th, 2011 at 7:49 pm
If the feds would have a court put a stay on it ten minutes later…..why NOT do it?
Really disappointed. If they won’t stand up now, they never will.

Want to go tit for tat on the accomplishments of the TX and TN legislatures this year?
Didn’t think so…

Patrick claims two “TSA representatives” came to his office to dissuade him from pursuing the bill.
“…nice little airport ya gots dere. Be a shame if anything bad happened to it…”
