Lane v. Holder

Josh Blackman looks at the latest second amendment challenge to DC’s gun laws.

Green Bullets

In times of war, it’s a good thing to know that the military has the time and money to research and deploy environmentally friendly ammo:

The cartridge, sometimes called the “green bullet” because it has an environmentally-friendly copper core instead of the traditional lead, has been getting mostly good reviews in the 11 months since it first deployed to Operation Enduring Freedom.

Governor Haslam expected to sign sudafed tracking system into law. Yes, a sudafed registry.

Kent Williams gets it right:

“This is a feel-good piece of legislation,” said Williams, adding that Kentucky approved a similar bill a year ago and “it has done absolutely nothing to control meth labs.”

This is what you do instead of something.

Zombie Awareness Month

May is zombie awareness month.

Here’s a handy chart for identifying zombies.

And, hey, more zombie jokes.

Heh.

there ought to be a law

Even though the market is already taking care of that:

“Let your fingers do the walking” could be replaced with “let your finger do the clicking” in San Francisco. It’s poised to become the first U.S. city to restrict delivery of Yellow Pages business directories.

The Board of Supervisors cast a 10-1 first vote on Tuesday to ban unrequested home and business delivery of the hefty telephone directories. There will be a second reading and final vote next week.

Mythbusters on sound suppressors

It was a decent show. They wanted to test the myth of whether or not suppressed handguns sounded like they do in the movie. They called the myth ‘plausible’, which I don’t agree with. After all, you have movies like Assassins where someone with a suppressed pistol is shooting at someone in a crowd of people and no one notices. And they only tested a 45 and a 9mm.

A couple of good bits were when Adam said (paraphrased) that police and military like them because they reduce muzzle climb and recoil; reduce the concussive force; eliminate flash; and make it easier to stay on target. He concluded with something like which make guns safer and easier to operate. He also specifically said these were not assassination tools.

Also, citizens love them too. They’re great for teaching new shooters and kids:

And they had a sound guy measure the db levels of suppressed and unsuppressed, and he noted the difference took them from dangerous to safe. Excellent.

Sound suppressors are the neighborly thing to do.

If I find the video online, I’ll post it later.

Terror Watch List

The NYT idiotorializes on what a great idea it is to deny citizens their constitutional rights without due process of law:

Here is a chilling and potentially lethal fact of life: A person on the F.B.I.’s terrorist watch list is barred from boarding an airplane yet is quite free to buy high-power firearms and ammunition at any American gun shop.

No, what’s chilling is that in the land of the free, we place people on such lists. But going on:

This bizarre “terror gap” is starkly underlined by the latest federal data showing that 272 individuals on the terrorist watch list attempted to buy firearms last year, and all but 25 were cleared to make purchases. Those rejected had records for criminal felonies, spousal violence and other threats stipulated in federal gun controls that still don’t use the terrorist watch list as a red-flag caution.

So, 247 people on a watch list bought guns? Did they actually terrorize anybody with them?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
