Light Bulb Police
This reminds me. I have a business plan. I will start making 99 watt incandescent light bulbs. I need investors. Who’s with me?

Close the 99 watt loophole!

Me too…

You’d only be able to sell them for one extra year. The limits jump down to 75 watts and then 60 watts each year after 100 watt bulbs are dead.
A better plan would be to come up with a non ANSI Type A* bulb socket, bulbs to match it, and an adapter from Type A to your new type that didn’t increase the overall size.
Granted, if that caught on Congress would just ban them too.
*: Or whatever the official name is for the socket type.

Just sell 100 watt heaters that happen to give off light.

Alan is correct. Europe has the same sort of ban, so the bulbs are sold as 100W heat lamps.

I’m going to need some of those for my easy bake oven.

I say we get rid of Congress and keep the light bulbs.

Sound like a pain. Scratching out the number 1 on each bulb and taking a very fine sharpie and drawing a little tail on the two zeros to make them look like nines…

Anyone notice there are now 57w bulbs on the market? Bought them at HDepo.

Where do I sign up? (Evil spamtrap.)

Maybe an adapter to plug three smaller 33 1/3 watt bulbs in where the 100 watt bulb belongs?
I remember seeing a similar deal with those crappy low flow shower heads.

The thing that gets me is for most of the year my furnace is going to run a little longer to make up for the heat the new lower wattage bulbs are not putting out.
Net energy savings? Roughly 0.

Hell, man, you could go $1.99 and still sell like crazy.

I wonder what the actual wattage is on a 100w/130volt bulb that is running on 108-115v?
June 9th, 2011 at 12:38 am
Already been done – my local Home Depot has 98 watt bulbs already in stock. But as mentioned, only for one more year.
I have several years’ worth cached away.
Stupid law.

A commenter on another site suggested when I mentioned your idea, “Make it 101 watts and call it a +1.”
