Good question
… one hoplophobic professor made a good point, that the legislature is posted against all weapons. His question was essentially, why would the legislature legalize carry on campuses, while prohibiting the same in the legislature?

Doesn’t the Texas State Legislature have a Special Lane for CCW holders to enter the State House?

Yeah, I was about to say that we have the same problem other way around in Texas.
The old CCW law (which prohibits municipalities from adding to the prohibited places) upset a lot of blue cities like Dallas that had to let CCW holders carry into City Hall.
Since then, there’s been a lot of people not getting shot at City Hall.

If a facility or part of a facility is open to the public in the normal course of business it should allow carry. To be considered “sensitive” yet still open to the public a facility should have to prove it by actually having armed security, a metal detector and a place to check lawfully carried weapons during the visit.
Two sentences to solve all access issues nationwide.

Note that applies to gov’t affiliated facilities.
I’m feel “post every entrance and then tell me to leave if you don’t want me here” is fair for private, non-residential property open to the public like stores.
The home is a castle and I feel getting informed consent from the owner is courteous whether legally mandatory or not.

I think the rule against carrying guns into the legislative chamber is to prevent Legislators from shooting each other, not the rest of us from shooting them.
This is the same historical justification for baring weapons in the US House and Senate chambers too, I believe.

That was the case for Kent Williams’ denial 😀

In Washington, it’s the reverse: you can carry in the legislature but not on the college campus.
