Really?

Talk about an unfortunate name: Operation Ruby Ridge

This can’t be serious?

Try Custers Last Stand next time pal.

  2. John Smith. Says:

That is not cool… Hard to believe people are that ignorant of things that happened in their own country…

  3. Bubblehead Les Says:

Next Up: Operation Dachau! Followed by Operation Wounded Knee!

Which Dumbass Ocifer has signed off on this Crap? Inquiring Senators want to know.

  4. Stretch Says:

Some S3 just got even for a bad eval.

  5. Ferret Says:

It was modified at the last moment by someone who thought “Operation Ruby Rod” might be considered offensive.

  6. Bill Says:

Most of todays soldiers and even officers are too young to even remember Rudy Ridge, guys.

It was nearly 20 years ago. Many of todays soldiers were not even BORN!

Assuming that 16 at the time would be the youngest anyone was actually paying attention to the news, those guys would be 35 or older.

Ask a 16 year old today what is happening on Capital Hill with the ATF and see if any of them have any idea!

Ask a 16 year old when the last time a Border Patrol agent was killed in the line of duty and see what they answer!

  7. ATLien Says:

Right, Bill, cause there are no written or filmed accounts of the event that any of those soldiers could have read.

  8. mariner Says:

    John Smith @ 2,

They’re not ignorant. They’re giving the finger to those of us who remember.

  9. Sigivald Says:

Code name generation is often random.

And Contra mariner and pro Bill – most people in the services neither know nor care about the ATF’s rampant wickedness, let alone almost 20 years ago, before a newly deployed recruit today was even born, and when a new Lieutenant would have been a toddler, perhaps.

(And contra ATLien, sure, they could have easily read about it.

But why would they have? They’re just citizens and soldiers; why would they have read about that particular 19 year old incident?

Remember – nobody but hardcore gunnies (and paranoids) remembers Ruby Ridge. Even non-gun types who were not kids at the time aren’t likely to have remembered something that got comparatively little attention – and they’d be more likely to remember “Weaver” than “Ruby Ridge”.

This is not indicative of some sort of Grand Conspiracy by the United States Army to Show Us They Hate Us.

Seriously – all of this here seems like it’s due to forgetting that hardcore gunnies are atypical in their concerns and focal points.)

  10. IZinterrogator Says:

@Sigivald: Operations developed at the national level are randomly generated, ops at Corps and below are usually named by the commander or ops officer and the first word is the unit name, and names at battalion and below often follow no naming convention. I almost fought in Operation Wizard Sleeve, but a female lieutenant complained about it when she asked why everybody was snickering during planning meetings.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
