How to decontaminate after getting hit with OC/Pepper spray. Mostly seems to involve sucking it up and waiting.

Milk. Pour milk into your eyes. Might not be instant, but it’ll make it a LOT faster.

lots of water and milk. The protein “casein” in milk and dairy products neutralizes the capsaicin in the OC.

back in the ’60’s the advice was to coat your face with petroleum jelly prior to attending protests. it would protect the skin from the tear gas and made it easier to decon.

Decon wipes.
Not perfect, but they supposedly significantly reduce recovery time, and they’re conveniently packaged.

WHOLE MILK! Tango and PT have it partially right. The WHOLE part being important. Skim/fat free milk doesn’t have the fat content to neutralize the capsaicin.

Never gotten any benefit from milk as opposed to running water.
Fresh air and a water hose always works. Just never as fast as you might like.
Manning up is also a good thing. Yeah it hurts, but only for a little while. Stop whining and keep fighting.

Rub Yogurt on your face.

Mylanta makes a good substitute for milk. 1 part mylanta 10 part water. Professional protestors in DC used to use it, back when professional protestors weren’t political. Tried it, it works pretty good.

Sugar. It’s what Fox Labs recommends. Their decontamination wipes are just basically baby wipes with sugar added. Suck candy works well following hot foods to get rid of the burn.

I’m thinking “sucking it up” would must make things worse.
Just sayin’ 😉

I’ve been hit alot. wash your face in water. then sit in front of a fan for awhile holding your eyes open. milk never worked for me. just suck it up. wait till you take a shower later. nothing like reactivating the pepper spray in the shower and it hitting your little danglies.

Baby shampoo and lots of cool (not cold) water.

Each year I try a different decon technique, and none are any more effective than what DonkeyShow said. And the shower always adds insult to injury.

search-fu “street medic OC” and you’ll see them recommend diluted Maalox. Not really up for trying it out myself.
