The article is somewhat close. However it doesn’t say that it’s not just Chicago Democrats who are against the bill. Suburban Republicans are just as bad about concealed carry. Neither group cares about the blacks and Mexicans shooting each other in their own ethnic enclaves. But white people getting concealed carry? They might start shooting the blacks, Mexicans and gays due to what I can only guess the legislators believe is weapon-induced paranoia. I have family in the suburbs who are anti-gun because they think that one day they’ll get really drunk at a cookout or other party and shoot someone over a minor argument.
My response to their assertion was “Just because you’re always incapable of making sound judgments doesn’t mean that you get to deprive others of making those same sound judgments.”
It’s that whole “weapon effect” argument made manifest. “If I have a gun I’ll use indiscriminately because the gun will make me do it.” That attitude is what kills support for concealed carry in the most populous section of the state.
Thanks in no small part to my soon to be former employer SIU using taxpayer dollars to deprive law abiding citizens of their civil rights. An e-mail to the Staff Senate President (a gun owner who alleges to be pro-gun rights) asking why we are using money to deprive people of their rights when we can barely make payroll went unanswered.
Worse I have a confirmed threat against my life that knows where I work and am forced to hide behind nothing more than a piece of paper (Order of Protection). My only hope is to find a job out of state and move. In one of the worst job markets ever.
Not posting under my usual handle for fear of reprisal.
Can’t we just do an “Escape from New York” around the Windy City and make all the Anti’s move there? Let them deal with a “No Guns/ Cops Allowed Zone” with no chance of escape for awhile. We’ll see how well their Utopia lasts.
Technically Illinois is ‘the only one’ left not permitting concealed carry. But realistically just try to get a concealed carry permit/license in New Jersey. The chances of that happening are slim-to-none. The same holds true to a lesser degree in the downstate counties of NY unless you are politically connected. We still have a long ways to go Nationally with this issue.

Let Illinois serve as an example of the way NOT to do things…
