Maybe if he deployed the Texas National Guard and the Texas Rangers to his Border with Mexico, I’d take him seriously. He doesn’t need Fed Authority to handle an “Emergency” with his own State Resources.
Remember, Texas is a big state, and the Rangers cover all of it, not just the border area. As far as using the TNG is concerned, deployment costs. Perry can’t just wave his magic wand and send a few thousand (or even a few hundred) troops to the border. They have to be paid, and fed, and housed. Medical care must be provided for the inevitable casualties (accidents, even if no combat). For that matter, “his own State Resources” aren’t his, except for relativly brief emergencies. The state legislature would have to be involved to find a source for the money to pay for such an operation. Remember, the government of Texas cannot, by the state constitution, spend anything beyond the income of the state. There are emergency funds, but they are for emergencies like hurricanes or wildfires, not border guards.
Just a guess, but I’d be amazed if less than 30% of the crime in Texas was not committed by illegals, and that’s not counting the drugs moving into and through Texas. Damn right I’d like to see some serious control on the border, but it’s not a state job. We need the Feds to step up and do their job for a change.
And yeah, I like the guy too.

Now if only Rick will take on Obama like Bachmann does. He needs to start saying, “YOU LIE” and point out where Obama is wrong (and that should not be hard!)
Has Rick Perry been asked if he ever becomes Prez, will he REVERSE the policy of Obama and the previous President, Bush (TX GOV) and STOP the INVASION of our country which Obama is allowing and which Bush allowed? When they SAY we’re in a “war on terror” and leave the borders open, then that is “treason” according to any objective reading of Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution.
Let him state unequivocally that he will do his Constitutional duty as President to “protect the States against INVASION” (Article IV, Section 4)
With Obama, we have a traitor and in Bush we had a traitor. Will Perry be a patriot and OBEY the Constitution? Let ALL presidential candidates answer that!
Say didn’t the ATF let guns walk to Honduras from Florida?
Is Florida a ‘border’ state?
All this stuff will do is get gun runners to run guns from OTHER states and you will see others use mutiple IDs so one buyer will go to 10 stores with different IDs and buy the guns.
Sorry, Gnarley, but illegal immigrants are actually /more/ law abiding (with the obvious exception of immigration laws). Some have theorized that this is because illegals are scared of being sent back.
Also, I am not a fan of Perry. He pushed through an illegal (against the texas constitution) income tax on businesses by calling it a net receipts tax.
Stormy Dragon: “15% of the people in Texas jails are illegal aliens.”
Gnarlysheen: “The number of people in jail =/= the number of people who commit crimes.”

Doc, are you saying that the population of Texas is *more* than 15% “illegals”? That would seem to be a necessary (but not sufficient) condition for your statement to be true.

What’s Perry’s position on whether homosexuals should be allowed to own guns, given his platform that homosexuality ought to be a felony?

And where are the other GOP Presidnetial candidates on this issue?
They can’t find their voices.
And most of them are similarly silent about the great debt ceiling extension debate, because most of them are Lilliputians.

15% of the people in Texas jails are illegal aliens. Feel free to go on ass-pulling statistics to rationalize your racial paranoia though.

@Paul
Pointing at something Obama is wrong on and exclaiming “You Lie” is like shooting fish in a barrel…with an M32 Grenade Launcher.

Gee … where does the GCA of ’68 make special rules for border states?

It’s all for show folks. Smoke and mirrors.

The number of people in jail =/= the number of people who commit crimes. Nice try, though.
