Multi-caliber systems do not make sense to me. I kind of understand the TC system and it makes getting different hunting rifles somewhat cheaper to acquire (using a common lower for single shot uppers).
But a service rifle with multiple calibers makes no sense to me. Where is a soldier going to carry extra components? Ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain. If a soldier needs more than the standard assault rifle, he/she probably needs a better optic beyond the completely different ammo. That is too much stuff to be carried and accounted for in a battlefield.
Couldn’t leave a comment on the linked sight for the Five-seveN link. (I really don’t need another useless log on., and what the hell is an Atom anyway?)
My wife loves her Five-seveN and the PS90 as well. While I of course would never be caught using such a dinky unmanly cartridge as the 5.7X28 myself, I will admit that it is a LOT of fun to shoot.
Since the Five-seveN has a 20 +1 capacity and the PS90 has a 50 round mag I don’t have to worry about her being able to protect herself when I am not home with my manly guns.
I would also note that I don’t understand the cost comments. We pay about 38¢ a round in lots of 1,000.
