As a relatively recent graduate of a four year university in Tennessee, some of my favorite classes that I took were riflery, skeet and trap, and handgun familiarization and safety. All were for credit, and the latter was sufficient to get a carry permit.
Where was this when I was at George Mason University. 😐
Well, I did take Army ROTC but that’s beside the point. It’s kinda a given we’ve be shooting in ROTC. But still.
“With this class, if one of these students becomes a pheasant biologist, for example, they know what the hunting end is all about. If someone asks them, ‘Have you even fired a shotgun before?’ they can actually say yes.”
Actually, that’s a really good idea. I dunno how many desk-based researchers there are, but there is the nitty gritty part of ecology and biology and related fields that some people seem to relish, and letting them be understanding of then people who hunt and whatnot will just bring a much more fuller perspective to their work than one who just spends all day in a lab.
Then again my major was Government and International Politics so people might think I’m a nut if I took any college credit shooting classes.
