How dare they make up terms! That’s what we do!
Media nonMatters is butthurt that the NSSF is using the term Modern Sporting Rifles to describe the most popular, uhm, sporting rifles in the country. The NSSF responds and defends the term.
I guess they’re upset when we use their tactics of making up terms to spin a positive instead of negative light on popular rifles:
Assault weapons—just like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearms—are a new topic. The weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these weapons.

I dont see what the public has to worry about with machine guns anyhow.

If the public is confused over the difference between full auto and semi-auto firearms it’s because the propoganda machine, once called the media, makes sure that the public is confused about the difference and keeps them that way.

I just love this – it’s such a common theme;
“…few people can envision a practical use for these weapons.”
So many layers of deception in one little sentence.
Right. So we should be punished for their lack of vision. As if we need to have a practical reason in the first place. There they go again, trying to set themselves up as the Official Need Police.
But their statement is a lie on its face isn’t it?– They perfectly well know of several practical uses, and that is precisely why they want to ban them.

Dang, that VPC page is 13 years old, and it’s still scary – and when they wrote it, they actually had rational folks believing them.

“…few people can envision a practical use for these weapons.”
Really? Repelling tyrannical government thugs isn’t a practical use for “these weapons”? repelling gangs isn’t a practical use for “these weapons”? I call “bull$hit”!

VPC says “assault weapon”. And they say assault weapons are only good for mayhem and murder.
Police departments says “patrol rifle”. And they say patrol rifles are precision tools of lethal force for law enforcement purposes.
But I say “self-loading rifle”. Because that’s what they were called when they were sold to the American public 106 years ago. As the Winchester Model 1905 Self-Loading Rifle.
