Russian army stops buying AKs
Until the manufacturer comes up with a new model:
A spokesman for the rifle’s developer, the Izhmash plant in central Russia, told Izvestia newspaper that a new model would be ready for demonstration by the end of the year.
Wonder what changes the army wants? The ability to hit a barn from inside the barn?

They want a lighter weapon with reduced recoil and overheating characteristics.

I have found that the ability to hit a barn from inside a barn comes from the shooter not the iron…

They don’t want a decent way to mount optics or even an adjustable stock?
September 28th, 2011 at 9:35 am
No. They like their optics system. They number one reason a rifle with more firepower ie the an94 was not accepted was because of the weight increase. If you can hit like an94 and weigh a full 1 lb less then the ak-74 while keeping it simple then you will have a seller… Not sure if the Russians would accept a non russian design even though they are known for doing things the US would not even contemplate.

First class snark, Uncle, but don’t plan on visiting Russia anytime soon. Russians have long memories….

Maybe the ability to take the safety off without using 2 hands and a boot.
Or maybe to change mags inside of a fortnight…

If the Russian Army has too many AKs, then maybe they should contract with the ATF to send them to Mexico.
September 28th, 2011 at 12:02 pm
Yea, it’s about time they upgraded.
I hope they don’t just copy the US.
As for that rifle’s accuracy, it is just fine for the training standards they have.

Weerd, you gotta get a bit of practice if it is taking that long.
Perhaps given that the design has been in use for years, they were just ordering them to give a plant work so they had work? Think of the political system here.

All the Ruskies have to do is look at some of the American companies, like Krebs, and see how to make the AK MUCH BETTER.
Say first get rid of that top cover so a apenditure sight can be added. Then redesign the safety so it’s like the ARs. Add rails for better optics like a flat-top AR.
And maybe go to the 7.62×39 necked down to 6.5mm (yes the Grendal.)

I’m a fan of AKs. Wish we had better access to Sako Rk95 or Galil Ace in the US. I think those are solid variations.
