Tennessee Crime Rate
Only better than DC? We know that’s not true since Illinois numbers are skewed by the failure to report in Chicago. I find it interesting that one of the proposed explanations for this is that our police do a better job of reporting crimes.
And this poll is missing the obvious answer: Memphis.

We used to stay at the SpringMill Suits in downtown Memphis. At night we hear “fireworks” down below. In the morning during exercise I found empties (.22, .25, .380s) in the little park near the hotel.
I believe anything you tell me about Memphis. It is Tennessee’s Gary.

Well….I wanted to know more about this, so I did a simple Google search and came up with:
1) He was a 22 year old…
2) File photo shows him sporting short dreadlocks, braids, or whatever they are called…
3) File photo also shows him wearing what looks like a hoodie…
4) Police reports tell that he was married…
5) PoPo report also says the shooting took place at 12:20 AM, as he was hanging out in the parking area of the apartment complex he lived in.
OK…now, I’m going to *infer* alot of things here, but being that I’m a former New Yorker, and had seen this kind of stuff about 10 miles from where I lived, I’m pretty certain that my hunches are fairly accurate..
A young kid (yes, he’s still a kid) who decided that hanging out *in the hood* was more important than being in his apartment with his wife and kid (she was pregnant at the time), at just a bit past midnight. He obviously liked to *look cool and hip* via sporting cornrows/dreadlocks/braids and wearing a hoodie, so one can infer that he was a gang wanna-be.
You play with fire, eventually your ass is gonna get burned.

Obviously, Tennessee has anti-gun cities with anti-gun newspapers. But the official FBI numbers tell the story the anti’s in the media will not.
In 2009 the statewide number of homicides was 468, while the rate was 7.4.
For 2010, the number of homicides was 357, while the rate was 5.6.
And yes, the FBI Uniform Crime Report clearly show what cities are responsible for the problem. Year on year, Memphis had 132 reported homicides in 2009, compared to 89 in 2010, while Nashville contributed 77 homicides in 2009 compared to 55.
Now, do you happen to recall some more permissive gun laws enacted in Tn recently? And when they were enacted?

Homicides don’t tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Homicides vary depending on medical care to those wounded, as much as on number of people shot. “Dead Right There” is somewhat rare compared with “I survived after lotsa surgery.” Pistol rounds are weak, placement is key, and Emergency Services are better than they have ever been at stabilizing, transporting, and fixing bullet wounds.
Let’s talk about violent criminal attacks first, then type of weapons used in those attacks, then threats to shoot versus actual shootings, then shootings by firearm type, then outcomes of those shootings based on care received. And include the capture, arrest, charges brought, and conviction rate for the shooters.
Otherwise it is all just political BS posturing.

I’m not buying those stats, at all.

Shootin’ Buddy, our only point of disagreement is that I would say it’s more like “East Saint Louis, trying for Detroit.”
