Emily Gets Her Gun
A series about a woman getting a gun in DC:
I want a gun. I don’t feel safe living in Washington, D.C. and want to protect myself. I’m starting today by going down to City Hall to find the gun permit office to tell them, “I want a gun.” This series will follow me as I navigate the city bureaucracy and outdated rules in order to legally buy a firearm.

Note how the politicians treat her like a child.

My guess is that she will be old, grey, and broke before she gets her gun.

There is no active dealer in DC. She won’t be able to buy a pistol, she be restricted to long guns bought out of state. But don’t worry, it’s only because of ‘reasonable restrictions’.

Uncle, please follow this. I stop by every day, and I’d really like to know how this turns out.
Thanks.

She will get her gun, because she has seen the need for it. She may end up with a shotgun (I’d recommend the youth sized Remington 20 gauge) or a rifle (even a Marlin 60 in 22LR would be better than a cellphone).
But she will get her gun, because she knows she needs one.

I wish I could find the direct quote, but DC council member(s) have publicly admitted that they wish to make it as onerous as possible to legally own a handgun in DC.
With the regulations currently in place, it is arguably very difficult for poorer citizens in less affluent parts of DC to legally acquire and own a handgun for self-defense in the home. It’s a very expensive and time consuming process.
:Let’s not even talk about carrying a firearm outside of the home (not possible in DC for regular lawful citizens).

Another newspaper did a parody of Emily’s experience with the DC Gun Control office, and replaced it with the DMV. Quite funny in my opinion.
