6.5 Grendel

Now a SAAMI cartridge. AKs coming soon, which is odd to since the Grendel is known to be an accurate round but the AK isn’t exactly known for being an accurate rifle.

    Yea! I want a 6.5 Grendel. Preferably in a bull-pup like the FNC2000 or the Kel-Tec RFB.

  2. John Smith. Says:

It is the range increase it will give to the AK that is the ticket…

Good! Maybe I won’t have to trade my Grendel upper for a 300 Blackout when my ammo supply runs out…

I still might though. In my neck of the woods the Grendel’s range advantage doesn’t kick in so the mag and bolt issues shine brighter than locals with reach.

    Haters gonna hate.

I have served since 1986. I like the AR platform, but am willing to see better performance from a different round. My personal AR is 6.8SPC. I like it.

But the problem I have ahd with the AK has always been accuracy. It was not designed for it. I don’t hate the AK. I just don’t think it is an accurate enough rifle for a trained military.

Before Desert Storm, I was stopped by an older veteran outside a restaurant and told that we knew nothing about fighting in the desert. I giggled and asked had he been to NTC. He blew me off and went on the “they have been fighting over there for 1000s of years” and home turf and yadda yadda. Then, our M1s were blowing turrets off before their T62s could see us. Our Air Force shot down an MIG that even attempted to leave the runway.

The AR platform is more accurate. Trained soldiers can use it. The AK requires less maintenance. But it is less accurate. Optics help. But optics help ARs. Iron sights to iron sights, optics to optics… the AK is not as accurate.

What a blanket statement. My bullshit-O-propaganda meter went off immediately… Implying that armies who use the Ak are not trained armies… That is fucking hilarious.

The US military trains its personnel around the defects of the AR.. The Russian military trains its personnel around the defects of the AK… Applying AK tactics to use to the US military would be stupid. Applying AR tactics to the Russian military would be equally stupid. Saying that your opinion is that an AK is not accurate enough for a trained army implies a nonsensical approach to reality..

You see something I realized during my time in the military is that and inaccurate bullet would kill me just as dead as an accurate one…

Not sure many folks would be interested in a AK Grendel, with all the cheap 7.62×39 available.

I do agree that the AK is not as accurate as the AR, based upon my 2 AR’s and 4 AK’s. However, the AK’s are accurate enough to do the job. I don’t ever shoot beyond 200 yards, so beyond that I have no personal experience. But, I would not be under gunned with any of my Ak’s within 200 yards. I can see that at longer ranges the AK is at disadvantage due to its poor sights and sight radius. I think the Galil fixes those problems.

AKs in 5.45X39 have reputations for being more accurate than the 7.62X39, if the quality of the rifles are equal or very similar.

The knock on the 5.45X39 is that it’s smaller in diameter than the .223 and not quite as fast.

Once 6.5 Grendel ammo is more plentiful and cheaper, I can see lots and lots of appeal in an AK rifle chambered for a round known for accuracy, with enough horsepower to easily reach out to 500 or 600 yards.

Try hitting 18X20 inch targets at 500 yards with an AK in 7.62X39.

Even if it’s just a 4 MOA rifle, a 6.5 Grendel AK could easily hit a target of that size at 500 yards. A 30-shot semi-auto that can hit that target at that distance and hit it with “oomph” is certainly something I’d be interested in.

Looks like Bill Alexander locked the barn long after the horse escaped.

His trademark shenanigans doomed that cartridge to obscurity.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
