Because that looks safe
I’m kind of doing a face-palm a Top Shot putting people on a spinning wheel and giving them a sub-gun. I would not be standing on that range.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Really? I don’t find this to be nearly as dangerous as say, IDPA. In this case the person cannot, no matter what, turn they are held in a single direction, down range, even when rotating.
What is it about this that you find particularly dangerous?

What, you don’t like Cones of Fire that are the size of Rhode Island?

It’s ok, they’re professionals. Oh wait.

Don’t you ever feel the need to practice for that special moment in the Zombie Apocalypse where you find yourself in just that position, with nothing but your trusty Class III subgun to fend off the undead hordes? Or is it just me?

It wasn’t a subgun, it was a large, awkward, semi-auto pistol. One trigger pull – One shot.
As to safety. eh, they are out on acres and acres of private land, with hills as a backstop. I’m sure all the production crew was safely behind the contraption.
I will say I wouldn’t want to be the guy who has to go unstrap the shooter though… If anyone would be in danger, he would be.
If it was me, I wouldn’t have hit any of the targets, as I’d be too busy throwing up. My inner ear doesn’t like playing “which way is up?”
Btw, if you haven’t seen it, I have a good behind the scenes interview with Phil Morden about Top Shot, Jake, et al, up at my page. (Hope you don’t mind a plug)

You have to hand it to them for making it a challenge. Clunky stupid gun and a pretty original course of fire.
Big Mike’s performance with the OTHER clunky gun, in the zipline chair shooting the orange balls of flaming doom, was damn impressive. I vote Mike for Huey doorgunner when we invade Detroit.

+1 to what Rob said. It wasn’t the MP5-K fun gun that I thought it was when they first showed it. Semi-auto only. 🙁
ps – Dustin FTW.
