Cousins Paintball brings visitors and jobs to the community. They also pay their rent on time. But a local politico wants to shut them down for a housing project.

The same is going on over at the old Grumman Airport. A push for a racetrack there has resounding, overwhelming support for it from everyone but the local politicians.
Not to mention the last (good) range, right south of there in Calverton. The developers have been trying to get the local gov’t to push them out for a long time. Ive seen people holding up loaded brass on news 12 saying it hit their house…
Then there is the Riverhead raceway… I wont say much except the govt has limited them, a property that pre dates 90% of the local populace, to operating 28 days a year. Obviously the govt hopes they fail.
This Island is dead. It is well on its way to being a place only for the super rich, and the housing for the people who clean their houses.

In my town there was a low rent trailor park, probably no more than six or seven old but not too trashy trailers. Those Who Always Look Out For the Poor, and Those Who Harp About The Need For Low-income Housing, decided it looked bad, so they took the land and turned it from a revenue source into a city expense (an addition to the city park) which no one uses.
