The bandwagon
JT is cornfuzzled on all the cool kids getting S&W M&Ps. I like mine. I had honestly never thought twice about them, content to be a Glock guy forever (and I’ll likely always be a Glock guy). I was looking for a wonder nine one day, since I wanted a gun that held more than ten rounds to make anti-gunners cry. I was going to get a Glock 17. Then, at a gun show, I picked the M&P full size. I liked the ergonomics and read up about it. Then, I bought one, having never shot one.
I’m guessing I have now put about 600 rounds through it. I have never cleaned it. And I’ve not had a single failure. It eats everything I feed it. I like the idea of 17+1 rounds.
I’ve not been disappointed.

When we were doing the Tom Givens class, he noticed I was shooting to the left. That indicated that I was having the “puffed up finger muscle” problem he talked about.
His suggestion to me? Dremel the grip on my Glock or buy an M&P. Guess what my next pistol will be?

Yeah, but then you’ll have to learn to shoot the M&P. Ask me how I know.

When the M&P came out I dismissed it as a reboot of the Sigma series. Then I started seeing serious people shoot them in competition and thought “wait wut?” Then I tried one for myself and loved it. Now I have a full size M&P 45 and it is one of the most comfortable 45acp pistols I’ve ever shot. Shoots nicely to point of aim, nice night sights, low bore axis, holds ten rounds in a slim grip, what’s not to like? Did a Burwell type trigger job on it myself, and now I can switch back and forth between my G19 and the M&P seamlessly, without making a single adjustment due to which gun is actually in my hand.

You have to learn to shoot any gun. 😉

With all due respect to my Brother in Bourbon, er Arms, NJT, he is A) Stuck in Maryland with its Bad Gun Laws, so he has to travel down to Old Virginnie to play with some of the Cool Tools, and B) as he has posted on his site, he prefers Solid Triggers on his Pistols. So with those parameters, one can understand why he is reluctant to “Jump on the Bandwagon.”
Having said that in his Defense, he does have his Sig 229, his 1911, a 44 Magnum and his J-Frame, so he is not necessarily “Stuck in the Past.”
I, however, have to find someone in my Neck of the Woods to let me Test Drive one of those M+P’s. And of course, the Wife must approve the Purchase if I like one. But since we just spent $8,000 on Home Improvements…Sigh!

The M&P is a good gun. So is the Glock.
But they are still 9mm, .40, .45, etc.. and still hold 12/15/17/19 shots.
So what?
I won’t buy another HC pistol till they come out with SOMETHING that changes the whole pargem. Say a 1 megawatt laser.

Bubblehead Les,
What bandwagon? Why would he? What’s wrong with his 229?
I don’t get all this “bandwagon” stuff.

I still need to borrow one of those to see if I shoot one of those better than the G34 I picked up for a steal. Lord knows I shot Uncle’s better than anything I own. I was practically stretching the hole out with that thing, and that was factory.

I’ll stand by my original Smith&Wesson M&P, the model 10. Being a wheelgun it aint “tacticool” but it’s the sweetest handling and shooting handgun I’ve ever used and it works for me! 🙂
