“Unnerved”
That’s the term to describe some New Yorkers’ reactions to wild turkeys in the city. Amazing the steps that they’ll take to deal with them except for, you know, the obvious one. Shoot them and eat them.

And slowly humans gave up their mastery over nature.

I salute whoever brought the original 9 turkeys to that area.. Someone had a sense of humor… Talk about revenge on ones neighbors..

Wow. The amount of fail revealed in that article is just staggering. They want the turkeys gone, but they aren’t willing to do anything that’s actually effective.
Also, does rubbing an egg with corn oil really stop it from hatching? I’ve never heard of that one before.

@Jake: hell, if they’re close enough to “smear the eggs with corn oil”, why not just take the eggs with them and dispose of them, or break them in the nest? The mind boggles.

Oil keeps oxygen from the embryo and stops C02 from escaping the egg, killing the developing chick. Works great when decreasing Canada goose from areas.

What a bunch of helpless losers.

What? NYC doesn’t have enough Coyotes?

I thought this was an old story, but no, it is the same story, different city. Boston suburbs had this problem in 2007!

Apparently the inability to deal with animals in urban settings is spreading across the northeast.

Hell, with the occupy wall street bunch in town you’d think that the New Yorkers would be used to ugly, dirty, annoying, critters.

better turkeys than peacocks..

Mmmmm…stuffed peacock…..with quail…..

@ Canthros: That was my first thought as well, but then I wondered if they would just lay again if that happened, but will keep ‘mothering’ an intact-but-dead egg.
I’m probably showing my ignorance on this particular subject here, but isn’t that what chickens do? You take their egg so they lay another one? I guess turkeys might be the same.

Are New Yorkers so stupid that they can’t see free dinners? For pete’s sakes hunters spend big bucks to go to the country to hunt them. Now they just can go to someones back yard, throw a net on one and have free dinner.

@Jake: I have no idea (didn’t know the corn oil thing worked, either). And I’ve even raised chickens.

Seems like the the liberals are morphing into their natural form.

Yet more proof that residents of NYFC should not be allowed to breed.
