“Also, when did conservative fall so in love with the tax code that they must dismiss 9-9-9 out of hand?”
I would never describe myself as a “conservative” but the 9-9-9 plan as put forth on Cain’s site is a no-go for any thinking person.
Just two problems as examples:
1) 9% on business gross income less “purchases from other U.S. located businesses”. So buying a $91,000 machine from a business in Canada and selling it for $100,000 will result in a net take home income of … $0.00. And the final purchaser has to pay a 9% sales tax. So the .gov ends up with $18,000 for doing exactly nothing but cashing the check.
If we up the sales price to $110,000 then the I get $9,191, the purchaser gets to pay an additional $10,900 and the .gov gets $20,709 for doing nothing but cashing the check. In other words: the government ends up with over *twice* the income as the person who takes the risk and does the work.
2) 9% on personal “income”. So I’m still a slave — they just make it simpler to calculate how much I’m allowed to keep for my upkeep.
The final line of “Phase 2 – The Fair Tax” is something I could support: “Ends the IRS as we know it and repeals the 16th Amendment”

Even the URL is awesome.
Not a perfect candidate, but one I could vote for.

LOL that one is better!
Also great point MHinGA. That’s the same feeling I have when the Dems go nuts anytime somebody recommends rolling back the war on *some* drugs.
Left or right, the establishment is the establishment.

Have to give the man (or the people he hires) credit for having a sense of humor…
